Home Office Organization Tips for Productivity
Now more than ever, more and more people are making the switch to work at home. But it can be tough to keep your space organized and to feel productive in your new normal. That’s why we’ve put together these home office organization tips to help keep you sane and productive.
Home office organization tips
Step 1. PURGE! You may have already discovered that you can’t fully set up your dream home office without completely starting fresh. Declutter and get rid of things you don’t need in your office. Take a look at the knick-knacks and decor you have around your office. Is all of it necessary?
Step 2. Establish work zones. This is especially useful if you don’t have a full office, but rather a desk in another room or an office corner. Establish work zones to train yourself that when you’re in these zones, you should be productive.
Step 3. Store, store, store. A clear, organized office often leads to a clear, organized mind. Don’t leave clutter out and make room for things that you know could pile up later, like documents, notebooks, or even cords. Store items away in containers within closets so you don’t get overwhelmed by seeing them all day.
Step 4. Keep it organized. It will take some dedication to keep your office organized, but maintaining it will only help you become more productive. Take some time once a week to organize. Soon, you’ll be able to move to about once a month. The key here is regular maintenance.
Some productivity tips for working from home
Once you have your workspace set up, it’s time to focus on being productive.
-
Get ready each day. It’s tempting to stay in pajamas or even sweats every day while working from home, but having a normal morning routine that includes getting ready each day will help remind your body that it’s time to work.
-
Take breaks. It can be easy to feel stuck when you’re working from home. In the office, you’re used to walking to meetings, getting up for coffee, and even taking walks with colleagues. At home, it can be easy to stay in your seat and hardly get up all day. Take breaks to get up, walk around, go outside, and just move your body.
-
Have a hard start and stop time. It’s easy to fall into the trap of working more flexible hours when you’re at home, but it can soon take over your life if you’re not intentional about it. Have regular working hours throughout the day and do your best to stick to them. Be flexible if needed, but try to maintain consistency throughout your days.
